Frequently Asked Questions for Volunteers

Being a Big can be one of the most rewarding experiences you’ll ever have. Make a huge difference in someone’s life…for as little as a few hours every other week!

1. What do Bigs and Littles do together?

Getting together is a great time for both Bigs and Littles. It doesn’t require a special occasion or expensive activities, just a few hours every month sharing simple things you already enjoy. Things like…

  • shooting hoops
  • playing a board game
  • sharing a pizza
  • taking a walk in the park
  • or just hanging out and talking

2. I’ve never done anything like this…is there someone to help?

You won’t be alone! Don’t forget that you’ll have support throughout your match to make sure you and your Little are safe, having fun, and are on your way towards building a strong relationship. Help is just a phone call or email away.

3. How do I become a Big?

A few things happen before we make a match. After you express an interest in volunteering, you’ll go through an interview, a background check, and provide us with a few references. Then we match you with a Little based on location, personalities, and preferences. Our staff provides full support for our volunteer programs along the way — so that matches can grow into lasting relationships.

4. Where do I start?

Ready to get the process started? Apply online and a Big Brothers Big Sisters staff member will contact you to set up your interview.
