Occupation:  Retired orthodontist

Hobbies:  Golf, skiing, gardening

Why I Became a Big:  As an orthodontist, my practice centered on kids.  I felt I could relate to young folks and thought being a Big would keep that connection going.

About My Little:   Number one, he's enthusiastic about everything we do together, which has ranged from bird watching to swimming.  Number two, his manners.  I wish I had manners like he does.  Every time we go out for lunch or do something, everything receives a thank you.  Number three, he's polite but really seems interested and wants to succeed in what we do together.  Number four, since he is Hispanic, I've learned more about the Hispanic culture.  It's been a learning experience for me.  I'm very lucky to have met someone like him.

Thoughts About BBBS:  I have inquired about other programs and found Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampden County to have a friendlier interview process and application.  I felt they were truly interested in finding positive people, and the follow up since then has been great.  The agency is well run.




Little Brother

Family:  Mom, little cousin, and aunt

Grade:  6th grade at Washington School

 Favorite Subject:  Writing and science

Hobbies:  I like to go outside and play with my cousins.  We play basketball.  I also like going on the internet.

Why I Became Little:  I wanted someone that I can look up to.

Date I Got My Big:  January 8, 2008

When I Grow Up:  I am going to be a Marine.

About My Big:  He's a very fun and nice man.  He does homework with me and takes me to many kinds of sports games.  Arnie and I like each other a lot and enjoy the same activities.  My Big Brother helps me with my self-esteem and makes me feel confident with myself.

Thoughts About the program:  It's a very good program.
