Some of the Ways We Utilize Your Funding

• We recruit volunteers and carefully screen each one before pairing him/her with a child.

• We interview each potential Big, each Little, and his/her family.

• Each “match” receives close support from a case manager.

• To enrich the quality of matches, we provide cultural/educational and recreational activities.

• We train our volunteers and provide them with all the information they need in order to maximize their experience as a mentor.

• We organize group mentoring activities for children who are waiting to be paired with a Big Brother or a Big Sister.

In its 2003 survey of 200 large charities, Forbes Magazine selected Big Brothers Big Sisters as one of its top ten charities. By giving us the level of “gold star,” Forbes indicated that Big Brothers Big Sisters is worthy of donor consideration. The magazine’s ratings were based on how efficiently non-profits collect and distribute dollars and focused on three critical categories: charitable commitment, fund-raising efficiency, and donor dependency.

Charity Navigator gives Big Brothers Big Sisters the 4-star “exceptional” rating. It’s the highest possible rating and indicates that Big Brothers Big Sisters “exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities in its Cause.” This is a HUGE accomplishment, and we look forward to building upon that strong foundation with your funding and support.
