If you live in Hampden County and have a child between the ages of 7 and 14 who needs an adult role model, maybe you should think about one of our programs. As an established youth orgranization, for more than 100 years we've worked to develop youth mentoring programs that work. Our experienced approach to recruiting, screening, matching, and suporting our mentoring relationships has resulted in thousands of lasting relationships and helped to change the lives of young people across the country.
Our impact
A study on the Big Brothers Big Sisters youth organization found that kids matched with a Big:
- Are more confident
- Are more likely to steer clear of drugs and alcohol
- Do better in school
- Get along better with their family and friends
- Feel better about themselves *

You're an important part of the match
We work closely with you, and your input is crucial. During the interview, you'll provide much of the information about your child, like his or her strengths and needs. In addition, you will approve the selection of a Big for your child.
After the match is made, you'll remain closely connected to the match. On a regular basis, one of our professionals will contact you to get feedback on how you think things are going. You'll be asked about any questions or concerns you may have.
You'll also be in regular contact with the Big. He or she will need your approval for the various activities, and you will be talking to your child to stay in the loop on how the match is progressing. If you have any questions or concerns, you'll want to check in with our staff.
Your child's safety is very important to us
The safety and well being of the children we serve is our highest priority. We strive to achieve the highest quality possible in matching a child to a caring volunteer. To help ensure child safety, Big Brothers Big Sisters conducts a thorough background check on every volunteer, performs an in-person interview, a home visit, and a professional assessment of each volunteer.
In addition, we will provide you with saftety tips for you and your child. Throughout the life of the match, our professional staff will be in regular contact with you, your child, and your child's Big. Of course, you can and should contact us at any point if you have any questions or concerns.
