Community-Based Programs
Being a Big will touch your heart. Read about Ellen & Brianna, Matt & Austin, Alycia & Kim, Tileya & Diane, Matt, Kara & Kamari, Chucky & Richard, or Nate & Arnie to get an idea of what being a Big is all about.
For as little as four hours every other week, Bigs and Littles meet in their community to share fun activities, stories, and a little bit of themselves. Our Littles are between 7 and 14 and live throughout Hampden County, South Hadley, and Granby. They all want and could benefit from having a Big. And that makes an impact on not just the child, but our whole community.
Our Impact:
A study on the Big Brothers Big Sisters youth organization found that kids matched with a Big:
- are more confident
- are more likely to steer clear of drugs and alcohol
- do better in school
- get along better with their family and friends
- feel better about themselves
The study found that these benefits lasted into adulthood, with program alumni more likely to have earned a college degree, have generally satisfying relationships, and be more engaged in their community.
